Run Level                                Description

0                                                              HP-UX is down and the system is halted.

s     Single user state with critical file systems mounted. The systems can be accessed only at the system console.

S    Single user state with critical file system mounted. The terminal where this run level is invoked becomes the logical console.

1    Single user state with all file system mounted. And a few critical process running

2    Multi-user state. All services running except NFS server process.

3    Multi-user state. All services including NFS server process running. This is the default rc level for HP-UX.

4    GUI presentation managers and some other system processes started.

5 & 6          Not implemented. Users may define their own.
